just red and blue...
Still playing around with folky patterns and colour combinations on some lovely little pieces of paper.
I'm calling these ACEOs (because I finally found out what ACEO means thanks to a Storque article over at Etsy... I can't exactly remember right now, something about Artist Cards... Originals?). Anyway, they're tiny and they're original, I think that is the general theme.
So it seems to be shop week this week, I just sent them over there, with a little folky house painting. Follow this link if you would like to take a look:

plates and paper...
Work continues on Buttercup and my series of tattooed sailor women, I'm thinking of oval framing them and giving each an accompanying sailing ship, something I suppose like the ceramic plate below. They will hang together as a diptych, each pair being the same size and using similar colours. Maybe, maybe...
What I really want to post about is some beautiful handmade paper I picked up yesterday. Isn't it lovely, look at those edges! Sometimes plain materials can be more inspiring than anything else. I'm thinking of all the tiny intricate black ink lines to be drawn...

I was working so hard today... until I realised I could create myself an identical twin using photo booth. Woo hoo for cheap tricks and procrastination hey...
I did do something relatively productive, I have listed a new print in the shop, it's one of my Field Below collages.

sydney...
I am back in Sydney at the moment. Oh Sydney, while I must admit my heart firmly belongs to Melbourne, I really do think you are the most beautiful city in the world. Yes that is a grand statement I know but it really is a lovely looking place.
I went down to Circular Quay this afternoon to visit the Museum of Contemporary Art because I heard there was a big exhibition showcasing new Australian drawing called I Walk the Line. It was really fantastic with some great interpretations of what it means to 'draw'. One of my favourite pieces was a digital video by twins Gabriella and Silvana Mangano showing them mark-making on a wall in strange choreographed movements around each others bodies.
On the upstairs level there was a major show of work by Yayoi Kusama. She is an artist who I have seen in print many times and have never really understood the hype. I now realise I simply needed to see her work in real life. The image below shows an installation shot of one of the pieces, it is something like stepping into infinite space surrounded by a psychedelic solar system, all in a room no bigger than three meters square. I think it is one of the best artworks I have ever seen, ever.
Well, there you go, it is a day for grand sweeping statements it seems.
