poketo and summer...

Hey Poketo interviewed me! It's right here if you want to have a read. I definitely know how excellent Poketo is, but just for extra confirmation check out their highlights of 2008... my goodness.

So on Saturday summer finally arrived... I almost lost faith. I'm spending my days on the banana chair in the backyard (if my Grandma is reading this, don't stress Gram, I'm staying out of the midday sun). Also, in the depths of my itunes I found the Grand Theft Auto: Vice City soundtrack (Wave 103) and I've got it on repeat, it's excellent.

Hope everyone is having some fun times.

sketches...

Last night I couldn't sleep so I got up and drew for hours, way into the early morning. I didn't really have any ideas in mind...

Her style reminds me of these sketches I was working on way back in 2006...

Maybe I will stick with these for a little while, see what happens.

back to front...

I have the idea of making a series of small framed works, inspired by some of the things I came across on my travels. It sort of seems like a backwards process at the moment as the frames arrived this morning however I have no work to put in them yet.

I love the frames though, they are slightly gothic looking and will be perfect for some inky little drawings. In Berlin I found this book on Russian artist Vania who creates amazingly detailed and slightly spooky images.

Then in Tokyo I found a little magazine called Yaso and I bought the editions on Victorian Culture in Japan and Vampires.

It wasn't all dark and creepy spooks. I also fell in love with all things Art Nouveau, pretty patterns, floral prints and diamond encrusted jewels which I shall leave for another post...

I met some excellent people at the exhibition opening in LA, one of them was Jason Levesque (aka Stuntkid). His illustrations and photographs are amazing, if you haven't already seen them take a look right

home again, home again...

I'm back! All up I made my way to Los Angeles, Berlin, Paris, London and Tokyo and I have had a most excellent time. The world is cool. I'm trying to decide which was my favourite but they were all quite amazing, of course I'm in love with Paris... where I ate so many cakes... but London is also great, especially for shopping... and art. Actually Los Angeles is great for art... Berlin is good for books. Tokyo is good for everything.

Anyway, I have come back full of ideas and ready to start some new drawings... and also happy for summer and sunshine.
