S...

Well it usually takes me a few attempts to get a drawing the way I like it. Here is what I hope is the final version, I don't think she is finished yet, not quite sure but I have this idea of adding tiny bits of imitation gold leaf (I've been very inspired by Klimt recently).

She is for the upcoming show at Brunswick Bound, illustrating the letter S.

Here is the invite to our Brunswick Bound show in October. I think it is my favourite of all invites, in a very lovely way it makes not much sense at all...

We are doing an A to Z theme, the show will be made up of drawings illustrating a sentence or word beginning with each letter of the alphabet. We thought it was fitting as the gallery sits on top of a bookshop.

Well I inked her up with Sailor Jerry tattoos and she became a little sailor's spirit. At the moment I'm thinking of her as a work in progress sketch, I'm getting closer to what I want...

A little while ago I posted an earlier version of this image, however I since became busy with a few illustration jobs so had to stop working on it. This year has been like that, a bit stop/start when it comes to my own work. As I have a few shows coming up towards the end of the year I'm hoping be a bit more focused over the next couple of months. So, now that she is all drawn in I've decided I'm going to ink her up with a few tattoos. I found these amazing images in the December 07 issue of Vogue Italia and then all inspired I ordered Kate Hellenbrand's book of Sailor Jerry's tattoo stencils, which I now see is where they got most of these patterns from...

coles phillips...

Yesterday I found the beautiful illustration work of Coles Phillips, he created these images called fade-away girls where the background and clothing fade into each other. Here are two of my favourite examples but you can see many more by clicking here.

smoking pyramids and zombie ghosts...

A few months ago Ev, Andrea, Sean, Coralie (Kane), Brooke and I had a show called 'Maybe We Have Met Before?'. As part of the show we worked on a series of collaborative pieces where each of us started a page with one of our characters and then posted them on for the others to complete. I met up with Andrea over the weekend and she gave me scans of the final images so I thought i'd post them here. I think it was most peoples favourite part of the show, and ours too, we had a lot of fun doing it.

 

Andrea, Ev and I are busy organising our next show right now. We are planning one at a gallery called Brunswick Bound in Melbourne with another of our most favourite artists, Mel Stringer. It opens early October so I will post some more information shortly. Hope you can come take a look... we have some fun ideas itching...

Today the sky is blue, the grass is green, the sun is bright and you could almost say it is warm! I'm sorry if I bore you talking about the weather all the time but I don't think I have ever been this excited about Spring. I have fourteen baby strawberry plants growing quite happily and the plum tree is covered in blossoms (something that I have not until now seen since moving here three years ago). This weekend I'm planting tomatoes, basil and parsley. Goodbye Winter.
