Amazing embroidered Penguin book covers by Jillian Tamaki.
I had a great day walking around the Finders Keepers market today, of course I forgot to take my camera so had to take some photos with my phone. This is the piece I did for the Leeloo show Drawn From Fashion (on the right, Courtney Brims' piece is the one on the left), mine was based on the image above from the Obus show at the 2010 L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival.
The lovely Dawn Tan has let me pinch some of her Finders Keepers photos which is very nice of her. So here is a bit more of the action...
Thank you Dawn!
The Finders Keepers market is on this weekend and one of my favourite people has a stall that you should definitely visit. Cat Rabbit! She has been busy making wonderful creations as you can see above.
I just went and said hello to Angela and Renee and they were busy hanging the Leeloo show, it looks like it's going to be beautiful.
Also, go visit the Frankie stall were they will be selling big art prints (including one of my pictures) with all proceeds donated to the Red Cross to help with the floods, Japan and Christchurch. Definitely a good thing!
It's going to be great.
The show is running Saturday 26 March and Sunday 27 March, 10 - 5pm, at Shed 4 Docklands, Melbourne.
Imagine all the exciting things that might be happening on the inside of Brandi Strickland's head. I like these a lot.
Here are a few more little sneak peeks. There are quite a few quilts in the show and the back room of the gallery has become a miniature portrait salon which is where the above gentlemen can be found. The lady below can also be found there, she is the Diamond Dancer (after the Bill Callahan song of the same name).
It seems some of my pictures might be finding homes before they are even hung on the wall for my show... which is good news!
One of these pieces is Lucy, she is based on Lucy Honeychurch from A Room With A View. As I think I've mentioned previously, all my female portraits in this show are based on characters from favourite novels (however I admit I have added and subtracted a few details... tattoos and the odd haircut for example).
Pen and ink, watercolour and gouache on paper.
42cm x 52cm Framed.
Here are some little (instagramed) pictures of the pieces I am just finishing for my show.
My show is just around the corner! Here is the invite, if you click on the picture it should grow large enough for you to read it.
Feel free to pinch it and keep it with you... pop it in your diary and come along. I just came home to a heavy box of beautiful Frankie magazines which will be available at the opening (just in case you need an added incentive). Thank you Frankie!
I still have so much to do... Yikes.
