papercut hearts...

Today I had an exciting ebay print gocco adventure. I mean I bought a print gocco off ebay. Now I'm really excited. I hope it arrives by the end of the week because the first thing I want to do is make some Valentine's Day cards for the My Folk Lover shop. I have Rob Ryan in mind for inspiration, so I wonder what will happen...

sprouts...

I'm quite excited, I think I'm going to get myself a Print Gocco tomorrow. I'm not one hundred percent sure but I am getting excited about all the possible things I could do with it. Also, I want to make a terrarium.

Just like these, thankyou Saelee Oh.

etsy updates...

I've just been over at the shop uploading a few new prints and originals. There is this new little piece:

Also, I have added both the originals and prints of these two:

So pop over and take a look see.

p.s. You may notice I have started using a copyright watermark, very unattractive I know! However I thought it might be time to start acting sensible...

treasure...

If you are a fan of early twentieth century children's book illustrations you may already know about this site:

www.nocloo.com

In case you don't it is well worth a look. In fact I can't believe the amount of amazing work that has been collected (many Arthur Rackham images, but also my favourites Jessie M King and Jessie Wilcox Smith). Now don't get me wrong, I don't usually buy into the whole 'I like your old stuff better than your new stuff' argument and I know there is some great contemporary book illustration about the place but... I think I like the old stuff better than most of the new stuff. There is so much complexity and depth in these old images and they have a subtle darkness that manages to create the right amount of tension to leave you with a tiny spook. Something that I think always helps to open a few more of the little doors in your imagination. Here are some examples that could give me enough inspiration to last a whole year...

nucleus...

My little kokeshi doll has taken a trip. She was lucky enough to be one of thirty to find their way to an excellent gallery called Nucleus, where she is comfortably on show and for sale through their website.

Well here she is with her back to us... how do you like that. Nucleus gallery is located at 30 West Main Street, Alhambra, California. You can also see her from the front, back and side right here.

kingbrown and a grand plan...

Today I was sent some photos by the lovely Brooke from Kingbrown Magazine, so I thought I'd put them up for show and tell. They are from the launch of Issue 3 in a big warehouse in Perth. Like the Melbourne launch, everyone was given a wooden bottle to work on...

And this is me...

Also, I have to share half a secret, a little while ago one of my favourite artists contacted me with a grand plan... a year long collaboration spanning two continents, that will hopefully see the creation of lots of art while also documenting something we both share a great love of. Ok I'm being cryptic I know but I can't reveal all until everything is set and ready to go. It'll be exciting I promise... ok, exciting if you like lovely paper... and blogs... and adventures...

inky lines...

I'm working on a lot of new drawings at the moment. I still have a few more ocean ladies to finish off however recently I was given some lovely pens and I had some ideas in mind that I wanted to use them for and they just couldn't wait. You see I've gone from my trusty lone Rotring 0.18 to... 0.25, 0.35, 0.50, 0.70 and 1! So there you go, lots of lines to be drawn. Here is the first in a series of four black and white ink drawings...
